Abstract:Coronilla varia was used as the test material to study the effects of different concentrations (0%,10%,20% and 30%) of PEG on the seed germination and physiological characteristics of seedlings. The results showed that the germination potential, germination percentage, germination index and vitality index were significantly increased under the treatments of 10% and 20% of PEG.The growth of seedlings was significantly promoted under 10% PEG treatment compared to the control. The treatments of 10% PEG significantly increased the contents of soluble sugar, proline and soluble protein, and the activity of CAT,POD and SOD in seedlings, while the cell electrolyte permeability was significantly decreased. It was concluded that PEG with the proper concentration could effectively improve the osmotic regulation, and promote the growth of Coronilla varia seedlings.
